RuneScape stores some files locally on your device. Sometimes one or more of these files can become corrupted and cause problems starting the game, clearing your cache will force these files to redownload.
Once you've cleared your cache you'll see a progress bar below the lobby. Wait for your cache to reach 100% before playing.
Windows
RuneScape
- Whilst the client is loading click the 'Options' cog in the lower left
- Your cache files are saved in 'Cache folder'
- Locate and delete the whole folder
You can also enter the command 'deletejs5caches' into the Developer Console and restart the game to clear your cache.
Old School
- Click Start, and search one of the following:
Standalone client%USERPROFILE%\jagexcache
Jagex Launcher Client%localappdata%\Jagex\Old School RuneScape\data
RuneLite%USERPROFILE%\.runelite\jagexcache
- Delete the 'Live' folder
Steam
RuneScape
- Right-click RuneScape in your game library on Steam
- Click 'Properties' and the 'Local Files' tab
- Delete the 'RuneScape' folder
Old School
- Click Start, and search:
%localappdata%\Jagex\Old School RuneScape\data
- Delete the 'Data' folder
Mac
RuneScape
- In Spotlight search:
/Users/*insert your Mac username here*/Jagex
- Open the 'Jagex' folder and delete the 'RuneScape' folder
Old School
- In Spotlight search:
jagexcache
- Open the 'Old School' folder and delete the 'Live' folder
Mobile
Android
- Open 'Settings' and go to 'Apps' or 'Apps & Notifications'
- Select the RS or OSRS App (you may need to tap 'See all apps' or 'App Info' first)
- Go to 'Storage' or 'Storage & Cache' within the app's settings
- Tap 'Clear Cache' button.
iOS
- Open 'Settings' > 'General' > 'iPhone Storage'
- Scroll and select the RS/OSRS app
- Choose 'Offload App' (Removes the app but keeps data) or 'Delete App' (removes all data and deletes app)
If you choose to Offload the App, you'll need to tap the app icon on your Home Screen to re-download it again. - Confirm your choice of either 'Offload App' or 'Delete App'
