Improving and Resolving Graphical Problems
Check the Minimum Specifications
Using the Minimum Specifications, you can find out the level of graphical intensity your computer should run with stable FPS.
|TIP - If you're playing Old School this will only run in graphical Safe Mode. This uses your CPU instead of your graphics card, so will generally have low FPS.|
Change your graphics settings
You can find a list of available graphics settings, what they do, and how to use these on our Graphics Settings page.
If you're using a laptop, there are a couple of things that can cause FPS drops or other graphical problems.
We have made a page on how to optimise your laptop's performance and another on how to force your laptop to use the dedicated graphics card which cover the main laptop specific solutions!
If graphical textures are all looking different (warped, or even just a different colour), try clearing RuneScape's cache. This is different for Windows and Mac, and even different for Old School and RuneScape;
After this, if you load the game and the item, equipment or area still looks out of the ordinary, you may have encountered a bug! You can check out our bug specific pages – for RuneScape and Old School.
If your RuneScape client's content (the map, chatbox, inventory, etc.) start looking like they used to (and still do in Old School RuneScape), you may have ended up in Legacy mode. We've written a guide on how to spot this, and how to switch in and out of it!
Sizing (Windows 10)
On Windows 10, if you are using a high resolution screen, you may find that certain things (the login screen and the interfaces in-game) are scaled down. This is caused by a fairly recent Windows 10 update - we've got some more information, and steps for a fix! Check it out.
