What is changing?
From 29th June 2026 you can no longer use aliases such as plus addressing (using a + in your email address) or a dot if you use Gmail to create more than one Jagex account per email address. For example:
- Name+1@gmail.com
- Na.me@gmail.com
- Name+1@yahoo.com
You are still able to use dots in any other email address other than Gmail.
Why are we making this change?
These techniques were primarily employed for malicious purposes - we’ve seen cases where a single email address was used to create multiple thousands of accounts exclusively for botting. Making this change will have a significant impact in tackling this large-scale abuse and bot creation. Specifically, we can:
- Reduce bot and gold farming activity
- Improve game integrity and fairness
- Lower strain on support systems
Will this affect my existing accounts?
No, any accounts that have already been created will not be affected. This change only impacts new accounts that are created going forward. Overall, we believe the impact to legitimate players will be incredibly minimal.
What if I legitimately use aliases?
We understand that a small number of players may have used email aliasing to manage multiple accounts. Existing accounts are not affected, however, this will no longer be an option. Instead we suggest utilising the 20 character slots you have on your Jagex Account.
I'm seeing a message that an account already exists when I try to make a new account!
If you try to sign up and see that an account already exists for your email, this could be that you have already created an account that has used plus addressing or an alias.
- Try logging in instead
- Use account recovery if you’ve forgotten your details
