Become an Ironman

Ironman Mode is an account type in both RuneScape and Old School RuneScape that encourages you to be entirely self-sufficient. Looking for the ultimate test? Follow these steps to create an Ironman account.

Old School 

1. Create a new account
2. Log in to Old School
3. At the end of Tutorial Island, speak to the Iron Man tutor Paul before being teleported by the Magic Instructor
   • If you wish to become a Group Ironman of any sort, please select this option and move onto The Node. Do not leave Tutorial Island before grouping. 

RuneScape

1. Create a new account
2. Log in to RuneScape
3. During character creation click 'Select Game Mode'

4. Choose from Standard, Group Ironman, or Ironman

After selecting Ironman, you will be able to choose the Hardcore variant on the following screen: 

For Group Ironman mode, you'll need to set your choices on the Iron Enclave after the tutorial island. If you want to dive straight into Group Ironman and do not need a tutorial, select either "Skip New Player Experience" or "I have played very recently". Any other option will send you to Tutorial Island first before bringing you to the Iron Enclave.

Once you're on the Iron Enclave, you can form your group. When you have control of your character, check out the "Create Group" tab - it should pop right up on your screen. 

Here you will select either "Regular" or "Competitive" mode. Don't worry if you're not sure which one to pick yet - you can change between them while forming the group. 

Choose a name for your group and you're ready to set out! Don't fear if all your planned group mates aren't all available at this early stage - you'll be able to add players to your team by returning to the Iron Enclave.

If you are a current Ironman player, you can head to Lumbridge and use the portal to the Iron Enclave to head to the island and start forming or joining a group. Please note that if you are an Iron and wish to become a Group Iron, you will not be able to reverse this decision.

Adding Ironman to an existing account
It's not possible to become an Ironman after account creation.

If you missed selecting Ironman mode, your Ironman character died, or you gained unwanted XP we're unable to rollback the account. So if you wish to become an Ironman or want to start over please create a brand new account.
