RuneScape is enjoyed by players from different backgrounds, ages and cultures, all over the world. We have a very strong community in RuneScape. Unfortunately, being online still poses risks, this guide should equip you with all the information you need to stay safe in our games.
A few things to note about player safety before we delve into this guide!
• You must be at least 13 years of age to play our games.
• You can set a username for your character; this will protect your personal information.
• We use chat filters to block the most harmful terms and players can also enable an optional filter to block most bad language.
• You can block players from contacting you.
• You can report any player at any time in-game.
• We have highly trained specialists to keep players safe.
Our Moderation Team
We have a team that review any concerns regarding player safety and illegal content. Although these situations are rare, we have highly trained specialists who review and act on any concerns presented.

Reporting Illegal Content
We have a dedicated reporting route available if you believe you have found illegal content in our games or on our websites.
Every illegal content report is reviewed by a member of our moderation team.
‘Illegal content’ means any information that does not comply with EU law or the law of a Member State.
If you live in the EU, report illegal content here.
Please note: This reporting route relates to the Digital Services Act, so is only available for people living within the EU. Other reporting options will be made available in the future whenever new legislation is approved.
Concerns about a player
We are sympathetic to any individual facing challenges. We are dedicated to keeping our players safe, and as such, we have avenues available for support.
If the Police need our help to keep someone safe, they can contact us by email to lawcontact@jagex.com.
If you are concerned about a player’s well-being, or you’re struggling yourself we would recommend people in the UK to visit Samaritans. Outside of the UK we recommend the support platform Befrienders.
If you have immediate serious concerns about a player harming themselves or others, please contact your local Police emergency service. The Police can arrange intervention, and welfare checks much faster than us, and in an emergency situation a fast response is vital.
Keeping Yourself Safe
It’s a good idea to check that you’re taking sensible precautions to stay safe online.
Protecting your personal information is the best place to start.
Personal information includes:
• Real name
• Email address
• Home address
• Phone number
• Social media profiles
Asking for personal information is against the Rules of Runescape. If a player asks you for your personal information, ignore and report the player.
If you are being harassed in our games, please report the incident to us from the game chat report abuse menu, and ‘ignore’ (block) the player so they can’t message you further.
