FAQs
I have a RuneScape account, why can't I log in to the Launcher?
To ensure our players have the best security possible, from November 7th 2023 all players will require a Jagex Account to access the Jagex Launcher.
When you see the message "Have a RuneScape account? You'll need to make a few changes." follow the prompts to upgrade to a Jagex Account.
Jagex accounts unify all your characters under one easy login and provide enhanced security. They also come with the added benefit of 20 extra bank spaces in Old School, and an increased AFK timer in RuneScape!
If you have an existing RuneScape account logged in, you will not be impacted by this until you log out, at which point you'll need to upgrade.
Do I need to install my games separately?
If you already have RuneScape or Old School installed, the Jagex Launcher will automatically find them. Alternatively, you can install through the Launcher.
Can I install and launch RuneLite via the Launcher?
Yes! You'll be able to easily switch between RuneLite and the official game client:
- Head to the Jagex Launcher and log in to your Jagex account
- Click the drop-down next to the 'Play' button
- Choose 'RuneLite'
- If you haven't already downloaded RuneLite it will start downloading automatically when you press 'Play'.
- If you already have RuneLite installed, the Jagex Launcher will look for it in the folder in which it was originally installed. If the files have been moved the Launcher won't be able to find them. Try reinstalling RuneLite using the RuneLite installer.
Do I need to use the Jagex Launcher?
Currently, upgrading to a Jagex account and using the Launcher is optional. Eventually, the Launcher will become the only way of accessing any Jagex game, including RuneScape and Old School. Users who have not yet upgraded can follow these links to install the standalone RuneScape or Old School clients.
Can I play both RuneScape and Old School at the same time?
The Launcher can run both games at the same time, and even multiple instances of the same game. However, you will not be able to log into the same character on both games at the same time.
Does the Jagex Launcher need Admin access?
While it is best practice for both the device and client security, the Jagex Launcher no longer requires Admin access to be installed on your device.
Note: To install the official Old School RuneScape client via the Jagex Launcher, please ensure you have admin access.
Is there a 'Quick Launch' option to skip opening the Jagex Launcher?
A built-in 'Quick Launch' option isn't available right now, however there is a workaround on Windows which should allow you to launch a game client automatically when opening the Jagex Launcher.
Note: Please ensure that you have your chosen client installed before performing the following steps.
To have the Jagex Launcher automatically open a client of your choice:
- Right-click your Jagex Launcher shortcut on your desktop and select 'Properties'
- In the 'Shortcut' tab, go to the 'Target' field
- Add one of the following to the end of the existing Target line
--launch=:- Old School:
--launch=osrs_ehc - RuneScape:
--launch=runescape - RuneLite:
--launch=osrs_runelite
- Old School:
- Save your changes
Launching the shortcut will then open the selected client automatically with the character you last selected.
Note: This workaround only applies for Windows users.
